Add an option to remove Dropbox items from the desktop context menu

Add an option to remove Dropbox items from the desktop context menu

Where is the registry entry for "Share dropbox Link" and "View on Dropbox.com." Between other registry edit and Context Cleaner I have found the rest of the context menu entries and removed them.

Dropbox people--PLEASE remove these context menu entries in the next upgrade. You do realize that if users have a large dropbox with lots of files that these entries slow down right clicks? It can often take 5+ seconds for my context menu to come up when these are there. I can't work productively with that kind of slow down and will have to move to another service if I can't remove them or if I have to jump through more hoops to remove them again after the next upgrade..

This is a very frustrating "feature", as it sits just below "Move to Trash", and sometimes files destined for Trash end up on Dropbox.

Please add an option to turn this off.

Agree, there are solutions when Googled, haven't tried, but here's one

Same issue here, right clicking on anything within the Dropbox is painfully slow (more 30s) and this has been going on for many releases. This is the reward of being a paid customer for more files than the free 2 GB.

That suggestion was the first thing I did. However, the menu option was restored in no time, so the fix no longer works permanently.

I can confirm. Same issue here. Just installed Windows 10. Right click in explorer opens asap. Installed Dropbox and then, slow context menu opening.

Fellow Dropboxers,

I didn't have performance impacts but I found those context-menu entries annoying. This solution worked for me (Win 8.1).

I had in the registry entry:

  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\DropboxExt

which had the data:

  • {ECD97DE5-3C8F-4ACB-AEEE-CCAB78F7711C}

That data is a handler-id, which is found under:

  • _HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID_

with reference to a Dropbox DLL.

I deleted both those keys, and the context menu is now gone. The removal survived a restart of Dropbox, but I suspect an auto-update to a new version might bring them back.

There are other registry entries with the same _ContextMenuHandler _(eg for Directory), but I didn't change those ones.

regards,
Laurence Out-Of-Context

Just open Terminal, paste the following line, and hit "Enter":

/Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/MacOS/Dropbox --move-to-dropbox=False

It might also be nice to set the folder the 'Move to Dropbox' location links to

Just uncheck the "Enable Finder integration" option on the "General" tab in Preferences. That did the trick for me.
