Allow Vault files to be edited in place

Placing a file in vault means you can no longer edit it in the way you are used to. There are files that I would like to keep in vault but that I need edit access to on a daily basis.

The new Vault feature for Dropbox is interesting, but there is currently no way to edit the files you have in the Vault on desktop computers. The Vault does not get synced to Desktop devices and can only be accessed through a web browser, and there is no option to edit files directly in the browser.

A Dropbox feature similar to the Android app that would allow us to edit text files directly in the Dropbox web app wold greatly improve the usability of the new Vault feature.

I am the same way.  I had previously requested keeping a part of my Dropbox private from apps, but still have two Win 7 computers (just setting up the first Win 10 to gradually switch over) and two mobile Apple devices.  I was thinking about how to be able to turn it on or off when I still have to do work on the folders with the older compuater.  I was also thinking I would like to use Vault on a shared folder with someone else, but haven't been able to study it too closely yet.

I agree that we need to be able to easily sync and edit Vault files. I have put a number of very important docs in my vault as I thought this was a great idea. But I do need to edit some of them, often daily. The files are there but on the Mac version of Dropbox they will not open in Word to allow me to edit. Please consider a way to edit and sync across all devices and all ways of accessing Dropbox. I love Dropbox and use it for everything across my laptop, iPhone and iPad but this Vault issue is not working well for me! It seems illogical to have a place to store files securely but no way to safely edit. Thank you.

Seconded, thirded, whatever. The concept is excellent but the implementation is not ideal. It doesn't just need to be secure - it also needs to be a quality of life improvement to feel useful. The information I feel needs securing is still stuff I reference every day - and need to change - and need to add to. I can't speak for anyone else but not being able to edit this on the fly in the vault is not only not a quality of life improvement, it's an additional frustration that I don't need on top of mounting others in the world right now. Great idea, but not an enjoyable user experience - actually in any way - from taking it off the desktop and moving the explorer path to the main folder, to now not allowing it to be edited.

I'm all for getting ideas out fast, progressive thinking, rolling evolutions and all that action - but as well as flashing your customers on the amazing benefits - a little heads up on the obvious limitations would be nice too.

Documents in the Vault (such as Word files) need to be able to be modified within the Vault. Without being able to do so the Vault has very limited use.

So how do we get more votes going? How many do we need for Dropbox to make a chnage to the Vault. I have simply stopped using it as I cant edit my files but would be delighted to use it if you at Dropbox can fix it! Great concept, poor implementation, come on Dropbox you can improve this for us!
