An option to add a time delay to syncing.

An option to add a time delay to syncing.

Hello!
It came to mind today that it might be interesting to allow for a short delay between the moment a file is added and the moment it starts synchronizing with the servers. I often find myself, for example, unzipping a complete archive into a folder but only wanting to access part of the contents, so I delete the unwanted files but dropbox has already started trying to sync them. It would help to avoid a certain amount of unnecessary network transactions. Perhaps the gain would be negligible though.

I originally upvoted an idea about adding a .gitignore style pattern exclusion to prevent temporary files from being synched, but then thought of this idea as well.

I propose that there should be an option that permits users to specify an optional debounce time (e.g. only synch files to Dropbox after <user-specified time interval> with no changes) so that:
A) Frequent syncs are cut down for files that save frequently, reducing overall network use
B) Temporary files aren't picked up

Left time interval vague, as one could feasibly argue use-cases for seconds, minutes and hours.  Debounce 0 is current/default behavior.

I would like to be able to pause syncing for a period of time.  Maybe some options like 30 minutes, 2 hours, 1 day etc or custom.  That way I dont forget to turn it back on but I dont have the cpu and bandwidth usage while im making alot of file changes.

Thanks,

Needed for Adobe Photoshop because they fail when exporting to a dropbox folder. Would love to be able to set the dalay per folder so that some sync  instantly, some with a delay if say 30 seconds etc.
