Hello, I just had the desktop app unwantedly delete over 12,000 files (30GB). I was able to undelete them all, but had to wait for them all to download from the cloud again. What happened was as follows:
Starting configuration:
SSD 1 is my system drive and contains my Dropbox application.
SSD 2 contains my Dropbox folder.
SSD 3 is brand new and empty.
(1) I migrated Windows from SSD 1 to SSD 3.
(2) I booted from SSD 3. Everything seemed good. Dropbox started automatically, running from SSD 3.
(3) I moved my Dropbox folder from SSD 2 to SSD 3, did other stuff, then hibernated the computer.
(4) The next day I accidentally booted from SSD 1, which wasn't wiped or changed during the migration. The old installation of the Dropbox app started automatically, found that its local files on SSD 2 were all gone**, and immediately synced this information to the cloud. I figured out what was happening and stopped it after about 1 minute.
(5) I booted back up from SSD 3. That copy of the Dropbox application contacted the cloud and then started deleting all my local files as fast as it could.
** At this point in the process, the application should tell the user that all the local files inexplicably disappeared while the computer was off, and ask for confirmation that it was intentional.
