Auto-Log Out function for the website

Auto-Log Out function for the website

I work at a very large University and there are literally thousand of students and staff using dropbox here. I recently noticed that dropbox does not log out automatically on browsers. This may be a Chrome/IE issue. However, if you bring up dropbox on almost any computer at the uni, there is still someone logged in into his/her account, because people assume that they are logged out when they close the browser. This is a significant security risk for personal data -

PLEASE ENABLE AN AUTO_LOG OUT SETTING WITH A TIMER (ie - after 10 minutes inactivity) THIS IS STANDARD FOR SENSITIVE DATA WEBSITES -

PLEASE VOTE FOR THIS FEATURE - IT IS CRUCIAL FOR MILLIONS OF DROPBOX USERS WHO LOG IN ON PUBLIC COMPUTERS AND MAY FORGET TO LOG OUT.

THANKS FOR YOUR VOTE!

I think the more important issue here is why are you set up to share desktop accounts (not Dropbox accounts, your OS accounts)?!  Thats more of an issue than any auto-logout function - if you are sharing accounts then you have no idea whats watching you when you type your password into the website, so anything can be stealing your credentials.

Fix that and your request becomes moot.  And your security gets a whole lot better across the board...

I see your point. You are referring to Windows/OS Desktop Accounts. However, the problem is that the students do not have seperate Desktop Accounts. The same holds true for logging into the Website on any other public computer, such as in an Internet Cafe etc. pp. Thus, is this the official policy then? Do not use dropbox on public computers - unless you are 100% sure that you have logged out through the website? This sounds a bit complicated and not really fool-proof- why can't we have both - good security on desktop-level and a fall-back auto-log out procedure on the Website?

I am not employed by Dropbox and thus do not set policy, but realistically if your OS isnt secure then an auto-logout feature won't make your use of a website any more secure, because your password has already been exposed.

My account settings are set to two-factor authentication. Thus, no-one else could log back into dropbox - even if the password is captured. The function htat I am describing, namely terminating Web-Sessions does already exist, all I  would love to have is an 'auto' switch for the terminating web-session function - precisely because it is such a common mistake that people make. I guess that would make two-factor-authentication quite useful.

That already exists. Don't select the Remember me option when logging in and the session will expire when the browser is closed (not just the tab, the entire browser). If Remember me is selected, then the browser is doing what it's been told to do; remember the session.

Hi, I would like if this feature was also active on dropbox plus!
