I have the 1 TB option, I can afford it, but I really do not need that much space.
This is the exact reason why the smaller plans didn't work the first time. Dropbox had so many people that downgraded their account that they lost money. It didn't make financial sense to continue so they eliminate the smaller plans.
I suppose thats thing thing though isnt it Tao, you are paying for the service - "it just works". Its like why buy an Apple product when a much cheaper one will do the same? Or a BMW/Audi type car when a Kia would.
I met dropbox at my university which participate on Space race. it was a great tool for sharing and work with files between students for free. Today i read that space race is goin to end, so i told myself, well i have to buy it, iam totally satisfied with dropbox functions. It totally fits to my cloud backup (photos, docs) .. about couple of GBs. I have connection to the files almost from everywhere and i really like this tool. BUT! when i discovered that drobpox pro costs 10euros per months for 1TB( i totally dont need so much space!!!) i get really upset. Why u dont offer something like 10Gbs,100 GBs, 200 etc... for suitable price... I´d like to use dropbox in the future... but with less space.. And your competitors offers enough space compared to price for personal use like GD (15,100,1000GBs); MOD (15,100,200,1000,...) Why not you? Iam forced to stop using your cloud and go to the competitor.. thats a pitty! 😞
Why u dont offer something like 10Gbs,100 GBs, 200 etc... for suitable price
Dropbox started out in 2008 with free accounts - 2GB, and that was it.
Then, after a few months, they brought out their first paid account - 50GB for $9.99 a month.
That was it for a few years - people, like yourself, started asking for smaller accounts.
Around 2010/2011, Dropbox trialled smaller plans for smaller prices - 5GB, 10GB, 25GB etc for various amounts of money.
Shortly after (6 months or so), they ended the trial and removed the smaller plans - as it turned out, Dropbox were losing more money through people downgrading from the existing 50GB plans to the smaller plans. This meant that Dropbox were losing pure revenue - costs were the same for those people, money coming in was less.
A couple of years later, Dropbox upgraded 50GB accounts to 100GB, and more recently they upgraded them to 1TB - all for the same money you paid before.
That is why Dropbox doesn't do smaller accounts - it would cost them financially to do so, and thus isn't viable.
Thx for your answer, i understand that and a policy of dropbox. But on the other side. There is a lot of users like me, who dont need space 100 GBs and more. U are typing about situation from 2008 and price for data. But situation about data storing, internet, connection, need of storing data and number of users is somewhere else. And if the competitors provides smaller accounts with really low price will lead to move of these smaller users to them. And thats a pitty, cause a lot of smaller users can upgrade their accounts in the case of need and pay more. And a reason for that will be, that they are satisfied also as a small users. Sorry for my english i hope my idea is clear 🙂
And iam satisfied with dropbox! But i could not afford 10euros for 1TB if i will use only 30GBs 🙂
