Maybe I'm a rare bird, though I do know a few people in my shoes. The default amount of space on my DB account is more than adequate for personal needs. Paying $10/month is a bit out of my budget especially when I don't need more storage. All I need is to have lots of devices connected. It would be marvelous if DB offered a plan for, say, $2-3/month to keep the same features as the free account, but have lots (unlimited?) devices instead of just three.
I have been using dropbox for more than a decade - my computer is approx 120 gigs. I do not need 1tb of storage. I would love to see smaller storage plan options available for purchase. under 500 gig
I will also be switching to a competitor, since I am paying for a product I use less than 10% of. I have used dropbox for years and would prefer not having to migrate but throwing money into thin air makes little sense.
It seems that everyone is trying to monetize their online businesses and convert all of their free to try users to paid monthly users. I get it... its montly cashflow... its the means for companies like DROPBOX to be able to offer outstanding utility/services... which they do! I've been a free account users for almost as long as you've been in business... when you placed a 3 device limit on your free accounts last yet... you basically KNOCKED MY LEGS OUT FROM UNDER ME... I could cope with my 2GB-6BG of free space... but I get it... you're a business and businesses need to make money... but from $0 (which is fantastic) to $16/month... its just too big... with every service trying to get $10-$20 a month from their users.... all of these $10/$20 subscriptions just keep adding up and don't go away! Its too much...
I'd sign up in a heart beat if I could get past the 3 device limit again... and perhaps get 100GB of space, or 25GB even... and I would be willing to pay perhaps upto $5/month max... perhaps such a little personal account step.. you could offer it for $2 or $3 / month... and you may attract a huge number of free users and new users that have been on the fence happy with what they have... but willing to convert... but being from Canada... dropbox first level of service being $16/month is just too steep to justify and I would really hope that DROPBOX would consider a more economical justifiable entry level account that does not have a device limit!
Hope someone reads this and can get it to someone that can reflect and make a difference... outstanding product... just too expensive for personal convenience account.
A lof of people needs more than the Basic/Free Plan can offer, but the next one on the line is the Plus, with 2TB - what can be too much storage and expensive for only one person. So, a smaller plan (with 500GB, for example) will be very useful!
Hi, I'm paying for Plus Plan, but I don't need all that space, I'm only using about 15% of the total capacity. And, in my country, the cost of U$S120 is a considerable amount, very considerable. And every day becomes more unreachable.
I'm very satisfied with Dropbox, but now seriously considering to cancel my suscription. So, I wonder if there're no possibilities of creating a 'low cost' plan of about 500GB, or 1 TB for this economies like mine.
I would also point out that you're not only competing with other storage services such as iCloud, Google, Microsoft, and others, but for personal use, you're in competition for discretionary dollars for electronic subscritions such as Netflix, AppleTV+, Hulu, and countless other $5 to $15 services. Some people can easly justify $10 per month for Dropbox, but you could greatly increase your paid subscription base by offering one or two more tiers—say one for $4.99 or $5.99 and even a higher tier for $12 to $15, with discounts for annualized subscriptions. I know that "simple" offerings is an attractive marketing concept, but this situation calls for a bit more "choice."
One thing that should be CRYSTAL CLEAR by now is that DB have no interest in increasing the paid subscription. If they did they would be all over this like a Dog eating hot chips!. They don't seem to care and our money is better off elsewhere.
it may be the only way to rid themselves of all the free accounts (that helped promote their company), now that their focus are those well funded and businesses.
