Will dropbox ever be able to support tags on files? Would be great to categorize our design work by feature and format without creating lots of folders.
@Emma i just finished reading through several pages of comments about this topic. As a user, specially after so many years, I would greatly appreciate some clarity as to whether there is a will to add this to the roadmap and by when.
In my view, from a customer satisfaction perspective, it is better to disappoint a client with absolute clarity than to drag the hopes for something that is clearly important to them for years.
Case in point - Evernote. Promising and not delevering changes for years has driven significant frustration to their client base.
So, ultimately I'm asking for clarity to as a client I can make and informed decision. Over 4 years should be enough for the dev team to know, specially when there is broad support as evidenced by the votes.
This seems to be a classic case of a product team assuming that just because they don't think it's useful, that they won't implement.
This has been in review for months. It's a fairly direct solution set. The value for folks who use media, especially professionals, is a game-changer and would leave us loyal to dropbox forever.I record some video, that has 4 people in it. Including their names in the file name is clunky. Folder structures don't solve the problem. It doesn't even have to exist on the desktop app - even having the ability be web only would be huge.
But hey, it's in review!
I see that the original request was in 2014, and here we are six years later with no movement on this feature. Pretty shocking that we continue to get non-answers for a standard feature for effective search. The fact that subfolders have been suggested as a workaround is ridiculous, which I'm sure the product team knows.
+1 for @Tinchohs comment to tell us clearly if there's no intention to add this feature. Even though I've been a loyal user of Dropbox, I too would like to make an informed decision about whether I need to think about switching.
*Edited to add a screenshot of the biggest irony of all: tags used by Dropbox in the community support area... *sigh*
Would love for this feature. Tags (or lack of) are one of the the items holding me back from diving into Dropbox. I was very shocked to discover that there are no tags as it has been a long time since I ran into an app w/o tagsI realize some 3rd party apps migh offer tags but with the price tag connected to Dropbox there should be tags. There are many files that can be applied to several categories but with Folders you have to decide on one only. You can copy it of course but the origianl will not reflect any changes to the copy
@Badjer I've looked into the third party apps - in particular Digitile. Their solution is good and their customer service extraordinary. As for Dropbox, it makes me wonder they are somhow willing to let people construct a more value added layer on top of their product. Once you add Digitile, you start to interact with Dropbox throuht their UI and they control the experience. Dropbox becomes a service platform with less chances to shine when it comes to adding true value in theuser experience.
Sad in my view... but I guess someone over there must have a reason... or absolute lack of visibility. We'll know soon...
I dont know whats the meaning of level 6, but I assume that @Tinchohs is an important guy in this environment. I don't know also whats the maximum level, but I hope someone in Dropbox is listening what you say. Thanks
@diogohomem My level is not much different than yours. Maybe I just posted a few more times... I wish Dropbox would listen to me. There is a lot I would say | ask for...
