Can we have tags on files and photos?

Can we have tags on files and photos?

Will dropbox ever be able to support tags on files? Would be great to categorize our design work by feature and format without creating lots of folders.

I thought I posted this before, but somehow I don't see it. Sorry if duplicate.

I got a link to a Digitile video that does a great job at what I'd love to see in a Dropbox | Paper tang implementation. It has a simple pane with the list of tags that allows you to browse previously used tags. it also hace difference level access rights to ensure who can create and who can only browse existing tags.

Digitile supports Dropbox tagging. Not yet Paper tagging. If it dis, I would certainly consider it. BUT, how much better would this be natively part of the product! 🙂

Checkout the video. https://www.loom.com/share/a87791aa5a654610bdacfe23a24845fe

This is super needed on a team. I know production teams would widely benefit from this feature.

Agreed

I see features that keep rolling out but personally I would be happy to see a simple thing like tags

Seems simple buy so much power.

Hi folks,

As there's been a lot of requests for an update - possitive or negative - from this thread, I have an update... and it's a possitive one!

We're activley looking into this at the moment, we can't commit to anything concrete at this early stage, but I hope to be able to loop back here in a few months with more details.

I appriciate this has been an ongoing request for a very long time, and there is real interest and need here. I hope to be able to share details in the future, but I thought it best to land a comment even without details on the thread to spark some hope for you all!

@Ross_S  Thank you
Appreciate actually hearing from a DB staff member

Not to mention how excited I am about the prospect of being able to use tags!

@Ross_S First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to update us. And ABOSOLUTELY agree that any update, even without details, is best than none. So thank you.

And if in any way we can help to make this a reality, please DO count on me and I presume most of us in this passionate thread! 🙂

@Tinchohs @Ross_S Absolutely

The largest friction pt for me in DB is the tags, or rather, the lack of

If that hurdle was removed then the role DB would play, & its future, in my workflow would change to quite a different level

I'm baffled this has been rolling since 2016 with no actual internal bandwidth. I do hope staff is actively looking into this as windows 10 file browser totally lacks features. I know for a fact Microsoft doesn't plan to implement it soon.

It would be great to have the ability to tag files and folders. Often a shared file needs to be duplicated in different folders, as it is relevant for different ideas and projects. And additional duplication only clutters up an already small volume of storage. And makes it difficult for other team members to find the desired file. The ability to assign tags, search by tags and display sorting by tags will greatly facilitate the work
