Can we have tags on files and photos?

Can we have tags on files and photos?

Will dropbox ever be able to support tags on files? Would be great to categorize our design work by feature and format without creating lots of folders.

It's here!

Following on from my January update I now have the pleasure of announcing....

Users can now add hashtags to files and folders to better organize their content. These user-generated tags are searchable so they can find what they need fast. Users will be able to add and remove tags in bulk. Tagging is available for users on Dropbox Business Advanced, Enterprise, and Standard plans.

Fantastic news Ross - Thank you!  As a Dropbox Family user this feature is not available to me - is there a plan to extend to additional plans?

@Ross This is fantastic news. Thanks to Dropbox for listening to the feedback... Really exciting. Do you know if the intention is to bring this functionality to the Individual Plans? Appreciate it. m.

It would be nice if tags are not limited, as per the link, to the web version (dropbox.com) only.  Would want to be able to use this feature with the desktop app & mobile

Personally,  I think any feature offered should be available on any platform or device. Otherwise, there is friction on your workflow due to imposed limitations

I hear you Badger... I've been wondering lately if they are moving away from desktop versions of all software. For example, not long ago, I opened the desktop version of Dropbox for Mac and it was shifted to the Apple Finder app.

I have an intuition that they might no longer support the desktop version, at least for computers. It's petty. In fact, the lack of offline support in the Mac platform is a deal-breaker for me for many apps, especially paper. Not as bad now, because travel has been greatly decreased.

It would be great to have greater clarity from Dropbox as to whether they will continue to support native apps.

Tinchohs,

Thank you for the feedback. I am on a PC & have the option (still) to use the desktop or file manager on PC. I agree with you that the offline option is mandatory. If that ever changes I will end my account on that same day as offline is needed for me, not just a nice bonus

Recently discovered that the gmail integration has ended as well. If things keep going this direction I will need to reconsider things

@Badjer What Gmail integration did you loose? Do you refer to creating abs managing Google files (Sheets, etc.) from within Dropbox? If so, this seems to still be working for me.
