Can we have tags on files and photos?

Can we have tags on files and photos?

Will dropbox ever be able to support tags on files? Would be great to categorize our design work by feature and format without creating lots of folders.

I continue to support this feature request even though I've had to introduce another application (WordPress + Out-of-the-Box plugin) into the mix to compensate for the MISSING tag feature in Dropbox.  I'm encouraged to see this feature request is still somewhat alive and active and I'm hopeful something will come out of it.  A search feature without additional indexing and filtering aids (like tagging) returns too much noise and is not usable.  Please scale up your indexing options to match the volume of content that you are encouraging users to store on your servers.

This would be a lovely feature. Our team stores a stock library on our Dropbox and searching for images is a chore. We stayed with Dropbox for convienience since the rest of our creative files are stored on Dropbox. Would love to see this feature implemented.

If you are using a mac you can add tags from finder

That may be the case for users that have the folders synced to their machines, but for those that do not, the problem still persists.

I cannot believe there is no ability to search the metatag information on photos through the desktop and mobile apps. Trying to find a specific photo is a mess unless you know exactly where it's at. This is the only reason I am still holding on to my Flickr account. The Flickr interface is clumsy and distracting. But when I'm on my phone and want to show or post a photo I know I can find it quickly on Flickr. By entering a couple of tag words I can find a specific photo in seconds out of the 12,000 photos I have there. If Dropbox ever got that ability I would kick Flickr to the curb.

I see that you’ve commented about this before. I honestly don’t know if our team plans on implementing this search feature, but I’m happy to send your comments on to them so they’re aware. Before I do, I just want to clarify: you would like to have the ability to search the metatag info with our mobile app, and on our web interface, right?

Have a great week!

Correct. More the mobile app than the web app as I use the desktop application and that does allow searching tag info. It’s just st that on mobile searching is cumbersome at best. Impossible at worst.

Hey again, @Scott N.15

Thanks for confirming. I’ve added you comments/suggestion to my internal feedback report, and also tagged it as a feature request

Cheers!
