Can we have tags on files and photos?

Will dropbox ever be able to support tags on files? Would be great to categorize our design work by feature and format without creating lots of folders.

Does anyone know - Can mutliple users see the tags if they are only input on your own desktop version of DB? I.e. all users with access to a shared folder? I would love a tagging feature on DB, can't believe its not already a standard function!

@rrbb It sounds like you're referring to the 'contact_bizdev' link. That page has been retired and so is no longer accessible. That was for contacting business development though, which isn't the right place for sending along feature requests like this.

This thread is a good place for this feature request. Dropbox doesn't currently offer file tagging, and I don't know if or when it might be implemented.

It would great if dropbox could tag my images automatically so i could find them in search using phrases like beach or airplane etc.. There are a lot of photographers who dont want to buy into the lightroom, apple photos/ google photos ecosystem. This is a feature offered by all your major competitors

Hi Stuart, do you mean using an algorithm to determine what’s in the photo to generate the tags?

If so, since tags aren’t supported anywhere else on the Dropbox site, or synced to devices in any way, it’s unlikely something like this would be possible.

I’ll pass your suggestion to the dev team though for their consideration!

Yes, text tags generated from the contents of the photo, these tags would be searchable from the plain text search offered by dropbox profesional, it should integrate nicely 🙂

Hello Dropbox crew, I want to join this group of people asking you for tagging. Please make it happen!

We have a lot of content, that is about several types of subjects, for instance: both exercise, sleep and nutrition. I don't want the article just to be in the folder Exercise, because it's not only about that. So tagging would be awesome: I could tag it with all subjects.

I would make finding files much easier, especially since our team uses both windows and mac os (so we can't use native tagging programs).

This request has been on here since 2016. One of the most fundamental features of file storage is organsiation and as a file storage management company NOT having this feature is a massive, massive let down. Surely it's not that hard as files already display other features like date modified, size etc.

I know a lot of Google Drive and Microsoft Onedrive users who would change to Dropbox if Dropbox would support tags and searching through tags and file comments. Best regards from Germany.
