Thanks for the interest all. It seems to me like DropBox is really falling behind everyone else on this one.
One interesting thing to note that Krabut said about services; I'm actually not interested in any of them. All I care for is being able to upload some files through the browser, then share it out to send a link to families and friends. I don't use their apps, extensions - nothing. I'll have to look into some of the other suggestions above as it seems DropBox isn't likely to change their unrealistic model.
Just like there's a LOT of room between 2GB and 2TB (literally three orders of magnitude), there's a lot of room between $0 and $13/mo. How about a plan of 100 at $3/mo; 200GB at $5/mo?
My requirements for storage are much less than 1tb but I am forced to pay for wahat I don't use. I don't want to change as I like dropbox but the cost is too much for me to afford as I am retired with less income these days.
Please dropbox, keep my custom and try to be responive to your user base ? 200MB is all I need, and I am sure others do too. This looks to me the one area which you are missing out on. Perhaps call it DropBox Light !
@Andrew Peter @You can easily get this amount of space for free; just invite your friends to dropbox and you get extra free space for each one that signs up.
@martijntulpThanks for raising this. I have been requesting this exact option from Dropbox for YEARS - for exactly the same reasons as yours. I know dozens of other users who would welcome it… I can't imagine why Dropbox thinks such an obvious option requires more support! Just get on and offer it please Dropbox!
Please, please, please provide a smaller plan! To jump from 2GB with the free account to 2TB is unreasonable. Dropbox needs to stay with the times and meet the various needs of users (I mean, is less than 2TB of space really all that much to ask?). There are so many cloud based storage solutions, so if you think your users will just stick with you simply out of love, that might work for a while, but not in the long run. Similar to other posters, I need less than 100GB of space (it took me nearly 10 years to fill the free 2GBs on my free account) and simply refuse to pay for unecessary space.
And stop with the whole "if there's enough votes for it then we'll forward it to our business team". Shame on your for not valuing ALL users' feedback. We get the message that we're not an important enough user demographic.
The smallest plan I can subscribe to is 2tb. I only need about 200-500gigs, and am considering moving everything across to google drive as they offer many smaller plans.
I'm a really long time fan of Dropbox system. I think it's really the easiest and clearest way to save and share data on the cloud. I tried google drive, apple cloud, and I really dont like. I love the simple way of Dropbox, the fact that my folders on my computer are the Dropbox folder. Simply. Unfortunately, I only have a personnal use of Dropbox. For my personnal data, but also for the management of non profit association projext. So I must limit my expenses for the system. And my needs a relatively limited. I think that what misses in Dropbox is an intermediate package between the free one (about 5 Go) and the first package (2 To for 9,99 e /month). The first package is too expensive regarding my use (the entry package by competitors are from 1 ou 2 e/month). The gap is very important. I really dont want to leave Dropbox for another system but I will soon don't have the choice. Could you please consider the creation of of an intermediate package?? I dont know, maybe 5e/month?? Thank you for considering my request. Sabine
