I have NO INTEREST IN COMMENTS on what I graciously share.
I am MOST annoyed that Dropbox is forcing the insistence of making a "social" experience on every Dropbox user without giving us an option to disable comments in a Basic Account. If I wanted a "social" experience for file sharing, I would have chosen a service specifically for that or I could simply use My Wordpress accounts for that purpose.
If I am forced to pay for the ability to control what happens with files I share via Dropbox - comments specifically - I will choose any other service than Dropbox for my future file storage and sharing needs.
I loved Dropbox for the excellent and what I felt was truly private ability to control how I store and share My files. I feel that Dropbox has made a terrible error by (1) making such an intense change to the service without giving Us time to adjust Our files that We share to avoid unnecessary work of babysitting comments; and (2) not treating users with basic respect with an opt-out function during a TRIAL PERIOD for comment sharing.
I also dislike the comments feature. While I think these are valid points, my biggest complaint is that I want to look at multiple pictures from my browser and the comments sidebar has to be closed every time I open a picture. This is especially annoying because they are private files and the only one who can view them is me. I see little point in commenting on something when no one else will ever be able to see my comments.
Dear Dropbox - Comments is a feature that some people will find useful. Some/many people will not find it useful, and some will find it a fatal flaw. So why not make it a feature YOU CAN DISABLE. Then everyone will be happy. I am a user with 2 Pro accounts, and I am not happy (for me, it is fatal flaw).
