Dropbox App text in monospace font on iOS

Dropbox App text in monospace font on iOS

Cardinal2B
Collaborator | Level 8

The Dropbox App file display / editor is a welcome tool on mobile devices. However, it displays text files (.txt) in a proportional font. If you are only going to show one font it should be monospaced for text files.

Please change the text editor to use a fixed width font like text editors usually do, or add an option to show text files with a fixed width font.

Hi there @Cardinal2B, although this isn’t currently an option, I’d be more than happy to pass your comments along to the dev team for future consideration.

If you have any other questions or thoughts you’d like me to forward don’t hesitate to get back to me. Cheers!

This is not the first time it has been suggested on this forum, so perhaps you could take another step on this and explain what are the development plans to resolve this obvious shortcoming?

The dev team is working on implementing additional improvements, but we don’t have a timeline to share about this yet.

In any case, I’ve added your comments to the previous request and passed it along to the team. Thanks!

Hmmmm. That sounds like corporate speak for ‘Development is always working on something, but not this. When and if we do get around to it, we might tell you about it, but you shouldn’t really count on that.”

Thank you for passing on these user requests though.

+1

I would like to be able to switch back and forwards between the default font and (say) courier new.

Mono space font should be the default - if you have report in text with columns that is dependant upon fixed font spacing , it is virtually impossible to read it properly quickly and it is not the purpose of Dropbox to make our lives easier? Major priority issue in my book.

Mono space font should be the default.

I would also like to see this behavior. Lusil, please make this a higher priority!

Sincerely,

A Paying Customer 🙂

Text in a txt file (on iphone) is not lining out properly.
In the past, it used to line out just perfectly (like monospaced COURIER lettertype)
Is it possible to have it lined out again?

Hi @chrisberkvens - welcome to our Community!

Can you please send me a screenshot of how this looks like on your end? Does this happen for all of your files of the same type?

While at it, can you make sure that you're running the most updated version of your mobile's OS and our app's as well?

Last but not least, please try clearing the cache on your app and then sign out and back into your Dropbox account following these steps:

1. Navigate to the “Personal” tab
2. Tap the gear icon in the upper-left corner of the screen
3. Select “Clear Cache”

Once this is done then please make sure you log out of the Dropbox application, then restart your device and log back in again.

Keep me posted on your findings Chris!
