Enable or disable the camera uploads feature in roaming

New member | Level 1

Hello,

In the Dropbox documentation we can see that the camera uploads feature is not available in roaming.

https://help.dropbox.com/photos-videos/camera-uploads-overview

Is it possible, in a future release, to let the user choose whether or not he wants to enable the camera uploads feature in roaming? I have a European mobile data plan, so I'd like my photos to be saved in my Dropbox regardless of the country I currently am.

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,

Ulric

Hm...

I fully agree - this "feature" should be available.
I'm having same problem - upload photos on roaming would be easier than finding wifi...

But - I have other thing also - which is a bug in my opinion...
You are away - doing photos... photos will not upload since you are in roaming... but even then, when I'm connecting to network, I still see same message (upload paused... roaming...).
To upload photos on wifi - I need to turn off "upload photos setting..." accept it... and than, press to start upload... after that it's starting to upload the photos...

It's every time the same - every day... annoying bug...

I'm sending same request as people before me - to add an feature which will make possible to set upload photos in roaming...
I don't know if this change something as this thing is not new and still, nothing changed...

Shame...

"Future consideration"... this is a 3 year old thread, so do you think around 2023 we might get a fix?

Yeah, I've done that - they had NO IDEA of the bug, I had to point them to this thread. I've done this twice now in 12 months, I'm considering reporting it more frequently.
I feel like other companies, Dropbox won't really listen unless we pester enough so it becomes a problem to Dropbox and not as it stands now which is a problem to Dropbox users, albiet the lucky few which can roam (aka holiday in another country) and rely on backups being taken.

After 7 years as a paying Dropbox useu I moved to One Drive 2 months ago. This roaming blocking is a "feature" that Microsoft doesn't have and I won't be missing. Sad to see how Dropbox is ignoring user requests.

Hi Walter,

Not to be rude, but this is the same reaction you gave other users Months ago.

Today I lost my phone: it fell down into a canyon in Germany. I was happy because my photo's would be saved in my Dropbox. But no, because of this stupid roaming option you have in your app, all my 500 photo's and videos are gone forever.

We need this option to enable uploading when roaming very very quickly.

Roaming in Europe does not cost anything more then without roaming. So that is not an issue. And the data is available, because we have normal mobile 4g internet, like we would have without roaming.

So now I have a big loss of images without any good reason. Just because of this roaming not be possible in the app. I find this very sad and stupid. Please make this option and let me decide if I want to upload my images with roaming too. This would have saved all of my photo's and videos!!!

The user need to be able to decide this!

I too support this feature request. How hard can it be to add an option for this in the Dropbox app settings? I really missed the option while camping for 1 month in Europe with limited/no access to WiFi.

I suggest you take a look at alternatives like Google drive.

Just cancelled my subscription. Which plan should I use in stead. Roaming is a demand
