Exclude photos from the photos tab.

Exclude photos from the photos tab.

I'm a relatively new Dropbox user, though I have been using Box.com at work for about a year now. I really like most of the functionality of Dropbox, but I don't like the Picture Tab (left hand column). It shows ALL my pictures and doesn't give me the opportunity to exclude any pictures from showing up in that menu.

I work as a paramedic instructor part time and I have a ton of gruesome pictures that get used in lectures, etc. I really don't want those pictures appearing next to pictures of my wife, kids, and family events. I'd like to have the ability to exclude whole folders from showing up inside that Photo Tab. I like the functional ability to look at large thumbnails of my pictures, but not being able to discriminate/exclude pictures from that field almost makes it dangerous to use Dropbox at all.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who would like to exclude certain pictures from that kind of very public display. Would it be possible to add this feature? If it is possible, can you tell us when it might occur?

Thanks for your help!

I would like to be able to select which folders go to the timeline rather than exclude what doesn't.

Reason being I have many hundreds of work photos across possibly one hundred folders. most of these are created by other colleagues via shared folders. It is basically impossible to keep the timeline as somewhere I can view my personal photos the way it currently works.

Now I have started paying and am uploading backups I too would really like to see the feature - Dropbox is a great alternative to Picasa, which went all horrible, for keeping pictures organised and sharing with others but I don't want random pictures from backups etc to appear !

This feature would be really needed. Many people use Dropbox to store pretty much everything, and there are many image files that should not be part of the users photo collection. User should really be able to select folders which contain photos they want to see in the photos section.

It's a nuisance to have the contents of shared folders show up in "Photos", especially since that content is outside my control.

Same here. I just ran into that issue again.

In my case the problem is that the time-line becomes a wild mix of webcomic images, screenshots and photos.

I am using exclusively the folder "Kamera-Uploads" for photos right now. So a white-list approach would work best for me.

*edit* Turns out that in this case the issue was caused by the "Kamera-Upload" feature, which probably  uploaded files from the "Downloads" directory instead of only DCIM. Still, a white-list approach would be safer.

Photos really should be white-list be default, or at least an option to white-list.

Given that people are using their dropbox to store a large subset of their files, there are tons of things that should never make their way into photos.

I don't care if it's a whitelist or blacklist, but the ability to control which photos show up in the timeline is a feature I very much miss from carousel.

It is there.

1. Look at the Photos timeline in a web browser (not the app)

2. Right click on any photo you wish to exclude and choose "Exclude from timeline..."

3. Dialog box pops up asking you which folder(s) to exclude. You can even pick an ancestor folder to exclude a whole subtree. Click the "Exclude" button.

After doing this the timeline will refresh, without those photos.

Nice! Not great implementation, but it gets the job done. Thanks for the tip

With the new version of Dropbox Photos, it is surprising that the much-requested feature of being able to exclude certain photos or complete folders while showing the listing/timeline of "Photos" is not included. Please include this in the immediate next version.
