Hide the members of a shared folder

Hide the members of a shared folder

Hi,
My company uses Dropbox (free and company versions) to share files with external people of the company. We would like to know if it's possible to hide the name and the email address of the members of the folder to the other members. And if it's not possible yet, I think it would be a good idea to improve Dropbox, don't you think?

I agree. Dropbox is missing so many necessary features, it is practically useless to us. We have found other means of sharing files. There are much better resources out there than dropbox.

Agreed Cole. Can you offer som suggestions? Due to Dropboxs inability to hide folder users, we are looking to switch to another platform for professional purposes. We can't have investors being able to see each other's names and emails. Thanks.

I have been told 'Media Fire' would do this

My company just discovered this today as well.  I understand Dropbox's point of view about "Shared" being a collaborative thing and it does make sense that they set it up the way they did originally.  However, it seems we all agree that for professional usage, especially when adding "View Only" members, we should have the option of hiding E-Mail Addresses (and maybe even Last Names).  Notice that in this forum we are collaborating but none of us can see each other's e-mail address or last name!  Seems like on at least one level this makes sense to Dropbox.

Also just figured this out.

I use Dropbox primarily to share files that are too large to email. Sometimes I'm sharing information with contractors who are competing against each other for my business. It is disadvantageous to me for those individuals to know a) how many competitors they have and b) who those competitors are.

We've been searching for a collaboration and file sharing system for our company and thus far have settled for Dropbox out of sheer complacence. This lack of functionality has motivated me to find an alternative immediately.

Matthew - why would you use a shared folder if its a one way download you are asking them for? Use shared links - https://help.dropbox.com/files-folders/view-only-access

By using a shared folder you are also letting everybody see everybody elses tenders.

If you want them uploading to Dropbox use 'Requests' - www.dropbox.com/requests

Super Users... here's an example - I am selling a portfolio of properties where everyone who signs a Non Disclosure needs to get the same information (one way, from me to them).  I don't want the other "bidders" on this package to know how many people have seen it - who they are - or frankly, if there are ANY other bidders.  Today, I am forced to make copies of the same information in new folders, with unique links and titles.  It would be much easier to just "turn off" the ability for anyone to see who has access to that folder and share with them the same link / password.

This needs to be an option sooner than later.

I was preparing to upgrade to Business account, assuming this was a paid feature, but not worth upgrading if I can't use for blind sharing to bidding suppliers.

At least one competitive cloud file sharing service offers much more control, including blind sharing, even in free version.

Eric - a shared link does exactly what you are after.
