Hopefully Dropbox will implement this. MegaSync has this feature where you can simply select files based on extension and they are excluded from the sync.
It was 2018 since this was 1st raised. Is there any hope of this being implemented?
Now we're onto WHY do it: there are a number of large and vital programs that create temporary files, such as CAD and database programs, that would like to be integrated with dropbox.
I would like to throw a vote for extension exclusion as well. In my case, the software in use creates a temp file next to the file that needs to be in Dropbox and there is no configuration options for its location. But furthermore, this temp file is locked, so Dropbox cannot even synchronize it and just stays in "synchronizing" state.
I have exactly the same concern. .tmpupload keep being sync and deleted from the dropbox folders which I need to sync to Google photos. This is a pain for CPU and bandwidth.
Yes this is a great suggestion. The problem to be solved here is to stop dropbox syncing files that are highly dynamic and that get rebuilt by default processes such as intermediate build files that get built automatically. For example ipch and other project files generated by visual studio. These file are generally platform and machine specific and if missing get generated automatically anyway.
It would be also good when dropbox asks to move a file out, it gives you the option to exclude that file from being synced.
I have apps that download files in chunks/parts as temporary files with the extension ".part". I don't need or want for these files to be sync'd, only the final file that gets created when the downloaded chunks are finished and the final file is assembled from the downloaded chunks, and the chunks deleted
I would have thought that having the ability to exclude certain file types would be very basic functionality -- especially for temporary files -- and not all that difficult to implement.
