It would be really helpful to be able to search the comments made on the files.

Agree 100% that comment searching is necessary. Just started using Paper so that a few months down the road I'll have a clean record of every team decision made on one of my cases that I can easily search. I won't be able to search for, e.g., the name of a witness we contacted or an expert we decided not to use if that if that information is contained in a comment.

Hey @Photon1, that’s some great feedback indeed & commenting under the features you'd like to see in Dropbox definitely surfaces some trends. I’m just pinging you all back on my end, as it would surely be helpful to give this idea a small push by upvoting :ballot_box_with_ballot: this implementation; just hit the 👍 button (i.e. if you haven't done so already).

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with us here & please feel free to let us know here if you have more observations!

Hello from 2019. It's been 4 years since this issue was raised, but, as far as I can tell, I still cannot search comments on Dropbox. (Please correct me if I am wrong!) This seems like a relatively easy fix to make. Why has it taken this long?

I was very excited to use Dropbox but am sad to see this option is not available. I thought it was an obvious enough feature that I didn't even bother to check - so the joke's on me, I guess?

As multiple commenters raised above, I know this is a huge turn off for anyone (most companies, academic researchers, writers, etc.) who deals with large quantities of files. I am in a field in which this would be a major benefit, and I can now see why no one else in my field has recommended that I use Dropbox. I will not use Dropbox in future if this fix is not made by 2020. Thank you.

Hi All; thanks for providing your thoughts on this!

This idea is going to need a bit more support before we share your suggestion with our team and for that reason I went ahead and updated the status to encourage more users to back you up!

I too am dismayed to find that Dropbox does not support this feature and with most competitors offering similar features, I'm hard-pressed to keep paying for Dropbox's inferior serivce.

Why do you need more support on something essential like this ?

Once other professional users who don't know they need this feature will learn they can do that, they will use it.

Tagging files on top of a good folder tree is the only way to get files properly organised. Only Digitile is offering this for a 10usd/user/month and unfortunately it is still an half baked service. I'm so frustrated that i cannot add this to the toolbox of the company, its potential productivity gain is enormous.

How come a microscopic company like digitile was able to create this tool and not Dropbox directly ? I'm stunned. You can comment a file but can't retreive a comments with the search foction ? This is totally nuts.

Does this exist yet? If not, why not? Not being able to search files by comment almost makes the comment feature useless. The user experience for browsing files to find ones that have comments on them is terrible, since I haven't even been able to find a way to determine which images have comments attached without browsing them one at a time, which is ridiculous, especially for a paid service. Which I'm now regretting paying for because this is basic functionality that's been ignored for far too long.

Would love the ability to search thru the comments of a file or the folder itself (aka spaces). Since I cannot add tags it would be helpful if we could add comments to the file or the folder. Of course we can do this but it will only be useful if we can search for the text we write into these areas
