As a long-time (10 year plus) Dropbox user on Mac, I find the Dropbox Desktop app kind of useless. It's just another version of the MacOS Finder so what's the point?
BUT! If the Dropbox Desktop app could let me "see" the online-only folders that I have Selective Synched to not be available/downlaoded locally, that would be awesome. Then I could see what files I'm "missing" and ideally even right in the Desktop App select them for download, altering my Selective Sync settings.
Right now, it's a cumbersome process to access the Dropbox preferences, navigate to Sync, click on the Selective Sync button, etc.
If the Dropbox Desktop App could let me see ALL the files in my Dropbox account (perhaps with the ones that aren't local greyed out) then I would use the Dropbox app regularly. Otherwise the App is just redundant.
As it stands, it seems like Dropbox really just wants us all to use the Smart Sync function, which continues to work unreliably for me. I regularly have files that the computer "thinks" are there locally but first needs to download before a program can run, then other apps crash and/or get confused. I am much more comfortable using Selective Sync and would love it if that were integrated with the Desktop App.
