Local path URL to files in Dropbox

Is it possible to create a local URL reference to privately shared folder files in Dropbox on Windows computers?

As an example, with Outlook, you can register Outlook as a URL Protocol in Windows and create links like the ones described in the following similiar Outlook article:

https://www.davidtan.org/create-hyperlinks-to-outlook-messages-folders-contacts-events

So for example, create a Dropbox URL like...

dropbox:Shared folder\document.doc

..and the end user would open the said file with whatever application they have registered with, in this example, Word.

No, there is no such feature.

An alternative that works, and assumes the user has their Dropbox folder in the default location is to create a Windows Shortcut.  For example...

"%USERPROFILE%\Dropbox\foldername\filename.docx"

It's not just the location, but the name of the Dropbox folder as well.

If they've linked multiple accounts or used the Teams feature, then their Dropbox folder name will be renamed to Dropbox (Personal) or Dropbox ([Team name]).
