Make Showcase Collaborative

Helpful | Level 5

Can Showcase allow multiple people to edit it rather than just the owner? Dropbox is built on the cornerstone of collaboration and this seems like a crazy feature to miss. We have high hopes for Showcase and adding it to our workflow but without this, it's useless.

Hi @jacksong

Thank you for the feedback! I'm the product manager for Showcase, and this is something I'm very interested to explore. Can you elaborate on your use case? What would you want co-editing to look like exactly?

Much appreciated,

Ben

Hey @bens! First off, thank you so much for taking the time to consider my comments, that's awesome to see. Contratulations on the release of Showcase!

We really love the idea of Showcase and can't wait to integrate it into our workflow. The challenge is that we often work in tandem and my understanding is that only the owner can edit a showcase. What we love about Dropbox is how it it founded on the cornerstone of collaboration and we use it for just that every single day. Showcase has the potential to take this further but we really need to be able to allow anyone in our company to modify a showcase. I think borrowing the system from paper would be ideal, some users can view, some can comment, and some can edit and I can choose who does what.

Second, a feature we have since discovered in paper which is fantastic is that you can link to an image or file in a paper and if that file is update in Dropbox, it updates in the paper .This has become an essential part of our workflow and it would be awesome to see this in showcase as well. We would also love the ability to attach papers to a showcase.

We are a concert design firm so we are often sharing design packages with clients. Currently we either stuff images in a paper, make a PDF of a keynote and put it on squarespace, or just email documents. Showcase could be incredible way of organizing all the different types of documents and files that we need to share with clients .Please feel free to reach out at any time with more questions!

Sincerely,

Jackson

Thank you Jackson! This makes a lot of sense - I'll share this with the whole team. Co-editing and adding additional content types are things we are thinking about, so the additional context is very useful.

One note: when you add files to Showcase, they do update the same way an embedded Dropbox file updates in Paper. (If you're seeing different behavior, please let me know!)

Thanks again for the detail. Please reach out if anything else comes up.

Found the embedded Dropbox file function, that's great. If co-editing worked we would start putting this in front of our clients tomorrow.

Thanks!

I'd like to second this feature. My agency in the past has used InVision to review social creative/copy with our clients, but we're trying out Showcase because of it's ability to show video (which invision does not). Majority of our work is video so this is a huge benefit to us, but it's a hassle for us to only have one person able to edit the showcase. (We're often working in 3-5 person teams between producers, designers/animators, copywriters)

Side note, it's also a hassle to have to create public links for everything we upload to showcase.

Thank you!

Thanks, @GeoffR - we definitely hear you on both counts.

Another vote for multiple editors.

I created a Showcase, but I cannot delegate the maintenance to someone else?

It can be done in Paper, MS-office suite, Google-docs, etc.

This would be a logical feature, imo.

Kind regards

Luc

Another vote for this feature, not having this is a total deal-breaker

Agreed - We have created multiple Showcases but would like to be able to share the responsibility of keeping them updated.

Additionally, it would be helpful if we could copy a showcase and assign ownership to someone else so they don’t have to be created from scratch every time we want to create a “derivative” showcase that someone else needs to administer.

Agreed...we NEED this feature.
