Mass Unshare all sub-folders

Mass Unshare all sub-folders

Helpful | Level 6

Is there any way to mass unshare all subfolders of one main folder? I've been trying to share a parent folder and I don't see that any sub folders are shared. However, I keep getting the message that the folder can only be shared as a link.

Is there any way to just unshare ALL subfolders of a single parent foldre without going through every single **bleep** file manually?

Hey there @coffeemanic!

Currently there isn’t a way to mass unshare folders, as each shared folder/file has its own sharing properties.

However, I’d be more than happy to pass your comments along to the dev team for consideration. If you’d like, I can also move the thread to Share an idea so as to keep track of your feedback.

This feature would be very useful.

I don't understand why the question is marked as solved when the question is still not answered.

Yes.   Move everything over to box.com using the Mover migration tool, as that is what i'm doing.

There are so many different ways that people are asking for better permissions management and the Dropbox responses are an utter joke.

We need to be able to add/remove people quickly, and it's totally impossible to keep track of what folders they have access to, and Dropbox is refusing to listen to the feedback. If you are going to offer sharing as a feature(and it's sort of THE feature), then make it somewhat manageable to administer.

The poor UX appears to be a deliberate, but coy decision on their part to try to drive us to pay for more Team licenses, so we'll pay for more licenses, for now... So far, I've seen rec's for Box.com and GDrive as alternatives with better experiences, so we'll start looking at those as alternatives.

Definitely NOT solved.

Had this issue today and my solution is as follows.

Create a new top level folder with a different name than the original folder.

Copy the contents of the original folder into the new folder using the "..." menu "Copy" command from a dropbox browser session.

The new folder will have your original files without the sharing perimssions setup.  Once verified you can delete the original folder or share the new folder as you choose.

Cheers.

For the love of GOD, Dropbox, please give people the ability to unshare all subfolders below a particular folder.

While you're at it, give people the ability to unshare all folders with a particular user—because sometimes you just have to kick someone out of your organization.

Permissions on Dropbox are horrible.

No way to recursively unshare all files in a folder? In a paid-for service? Is it a joke?

Helpful | Level 6

Nope. I am looking at alternatives because it is frustrating. This should be a basic feature.
