A number of us have started using dropbox paper at work. We want to save documents that we create in paper to an existing Team folder but I can't see how to do this. Any ideas anyone?
The availability of Paper files within the Dropbox folder was implemented with The 2020 Release of Dropbox Paper. The new release of Dropbox Paper will gradually roll out to all Dropbox customers until everyone is updated to the new version.
Me too are really disappointed by dropbox. I'm still on the old Paper version and don't understand why we are not migrated yet to the new one.
Those people awaiting the new Paper 2020 will be disappointed also when they start using the new version. I have some friends new dropbox users that have the new Paper so I gave a look: yes your paper files are saved into your dropbox file system like text files but if you look carefully inside you'll find that there are merely link to somewhere else content, the paper file doesn't have inside what you have written but instead just a link to some cloud resources.
That is not what people here are expecting to have.
Some good news! I just contacted support and asked about the 2020 Paper. The agent told me the first half of 2020 it is expected to be rolled out to every user. She confirmed it should be this month or in June. Fingers crossed. Although I am kind of disappointed it may not meet my expectations based on what @wmac mentioned.
We've been looking for this feature since 2015? How come it hasn't risen to the level of notice of the Dropbox developers? Their integration will come in handy and would love for this feature to be available in the near future.
Dropbox has said they are rolling it out later this year, but until then, you have a way solving for this. I did it. It takes some legwork, but in the end it solves the problem.
Ready?
Create a new account. Done.
Now, you say, but all my files are with my current account.
And therein lies the legwork. Create the new account. Migrate your files. Update your email. Update your payment info.
Done. ... Better than waiting for who knows how much longer till Dropbox drops their update.
Justin, I'm curious as to how that plan handles shared folders. Does it retain the integrity of any shared folders or does the sharing need to be reestablished for each folder?
Good question, and in all fairness, I was changing my entire operation when I made the switch. ( Element 9 Design to Just Front-end ). So, well, by in large, I wasn't dealing with shared folders. There are a few instances though, where there were Papers that were shared with clients, which at this point, I'm not 100% if there's a way to migrate the paper over keeping the shared people. For me though, since branding and everything was chaning, it's not a big deal to just sever the previously shared papers and start new ones on the new account.
Anyway ... the other thing I'd say, that has revolutionized my workflow this year, was Dropbox's integration with G Suite. Serious game changer 🙂
( Side note, what's with not having nested threads here in the community. )
unfortunately I am out of steam on this one - and coupled with lack of security for publishing the Paper pages outside to external users - this has turned me off Paper completely
so I am winding down my use of it at our organisation, and most likely we will be looking at another stack - sorry I really wanted to use this! but it's not even MVP yet
@vza I'm with you. I've lost all interest in Paper and have only 1 client left using it. I'm working diligently to end that usage as well. It's been almost 5 years. Yes a new system is in the works, but we've seen no updates, no upgrades, no useful changes in many months. Movin' on!
