Scaling Issues in a Multi-Monitor Environment

Scaling Issues in a Multi-Monitor Environment

Explorer | Level 4

I'm running the Dropbox Desktop App (64.3.123) on Windows 10 (v1809) laptop.

The one-screen scenario (laptop not connected to the external monitor, so only one HiDPI screen set to 150% scaling) works fine, the app window displays scaled to the 150% the laptop screen is set to.

The issue now arises, when I connect the external monitor, which has the normal resolution of 96 DPI and scaling at 100%. I have set my system to set the external monitor to be the primary monitor, once it is connected. Therefore the Dropbox app window is displayed on the external monitor, but it continues to be scaled to 150%. This is obviously too large.

I assume that the Desktop App does not support per-monitor scaling. Is this an issue that can be fixed? Or is there a workaround?

Hey there (@Matthias C.), I appreciate your detailed description & I hope my message finds you well today!

While the display settings can be adjusted through your device’s Appearance & Personalization settings, I can also make a brief note of your “per-monitor scaling” request here to our team specialists as a feature request. Please keep these creative ideas :light bulb:coming, as our product experts have been monitoring our Community closely for future improvements.

Please do let me know of any thoughts or additional questions you may have on this discussion & I’ll do my best to check back with you. Thanks & happy Monday Matthias!

Thanks for taking that in as a feature request, Jane! I think it's a problem that is becoming more prevalent with more and more people having HiDPI laptop screens, and normal DPI external monitors (since laptops are replaced more often than monitors). At my workplace (where Dropbox is not in use) every person has basically the same setup I have at home now with this issue, so I assume it's something worth fixing.
