Search by file name instead of full-text search

Search by file name instead of full-text search

Dropbox 'full-text search' is a powerful and convenient feature. However, as I add more and more files to Dropbox, the 'full-text search' feature is becoming more of a hindrance, especially when I don't want to do a 'deep' search.

For instance, I need to find a file with the name 'Apple' on its name. However, the 'full-text search' returns a huge list of files containing the word 'Apple', and the file I need is buried amongst them.

I request the Dropbox team to make the 'full-text search' an optional feature. That is, for a casual search, Dropbox should search only the file names. If I want a 'deeper' search, I should be able to select/tick 'full-text search' in the next step.

Thanks!

I prefered Dropbox circa 10 years ago. I don't think all the added functionality has added much to the product. In fact it has hindered it.

Dropbox adds bells and whistles nobody asked for then charges more

That this problem still exists is unbelievably stupid.  Like other commentators, I get WAAAAY too many hits with my searches.  The program doesn't even let me do a "whole word" search so if I need to find a document with a company called IDE, the return is for all documents where those three letters appear - as in idea, ideal, identify etc.  Truly, truly terrible search function

Still here feeling your pain, @Eileen4 ... How can the Dropbox community of users gain the attention this lack of basic functionality deserves?

IMHO This feature shouldn't even need voting up or a discussion or further comment. This is a basic, mandatory feature that should just be there ... period.

Having full text search active with no (apparent) means to turn that off, is next to useless.  It's like me wanting to find a shoe shop in my town and getting a response back that shows every shoe shop in the US along with entries for horseshoes, snowshoes and anything else that has "shoe" or "shop".

It isn't accepted on the web, why would Dropbox developers think its acceptable in their product. In its current state it's unusable.

Note that nobody from Dropbox has ever given a satisfactory explanation.

Smart search is so smart it is useless. Time to give us dumbies some more control on what appears in the results.

Goodbye Dropbox and Hello Google Drive.  The lack of decent search functionality is definitely a deal breaker.

With so many subscribers asking for better search functionality, it’s a big mystery why Dropbox is not implementing this.
