A company I consult/contract with is evaluating Dropbox for Business at my recommendation. The first thing that is bugging them on Day 1 is that they cannot search comments.
They have promotional videos that they would like to "tag" and then be able to search tags to find them. Google Drive has this, but with Dropbox there is no "tag" concept and comments cannot be searched.
I suggest adding comment searching as soon as convenient. Thanks for listening.
I would also appreciate ability to search through tags and comments on both files and folders.
Without that feature, DropBox can't really be called an Advanced storage solution (simple syncing between PC and file server can be done with a cheap FTP server).
Currently, users have to use external application for searching such as http://cloudfindhq.com/ or Evernote, but that over-complicates searching and finding files.
Agree with all above. Will be uploading thousands of pages of documents to Dropbox (business). Would love to have the ability to search comments and utilize tags for refined results. File names are limiting.
I was rather surprised to find that the Comments are not searchable. Currently, I use Dropbox exclusively for personal use. I do not need the comments for collaboration purposes, but rather to organize my own files. Please upgrade and introduce this feature. Tags woud also be a welcome and most helpful feature.
Couldn't agree more with the comments above. My main use of dropbox is for photo storage and not being able to tag images or search for comments is a pretty big drawback. Is this planned for a release anytime soon?
Yes! Please! We are an organization with several hundred employees and we would love to see searchable comments and other metadata tools implemented with dropbox.
