I am opening a new thread to specifically request that the search engine searches in the IPTC Metadata.
Currently, the search engine searches by file name, and folder name and also looks for elements in the photos using the AI engine.
We want the search engine to index the IPTC metadata in order to be able to search with the photos' keywords.
I hope this is clear. Check the image below to make it clearer 🙂 Again, I want to search THOSE keywords shown below and get results
To clarify further these would be keywords built-into images before archived in dropbox in programs such as Adobe Bridge, Lightroom, etc... I know Dropbox allows you to add keywords but that is counter intuitive when photographers do this in software specifically designed for this.
The Multi-file organize feature is very confusing and clunky. I have yet to get this to work correctly.
I am also NOT able to find any images by the IPTC keywords in my JPEG / JPG files (etc) hosted in Dropbox. Our team places those keywords into the images' IPTC and it is also in the "raw data.". They were assigned to the images via Adobe Bridge. If I view file info in Finder/Explorer, I see the keywords, but am not able to search on the dropbox.com search portal and find images by these keywords.
This is hugely needed -- I wish it could work. It's very frustrating to not be able to search this like all the OS (Win/Mac) allow for, and we're busy looking for workarounds or alternate forms of cloud storage to make this work!
This would also be massive for our businesses as well! I just need to be able to search those keywords!!!!
Please dropbox add this - not too much to ask and such a crucial tool. Thanks
I thought I had found the perfect way to store and share my massive photo collection online. But without being able to search IPTC data, I am unable to find the photos I so carefully tagged in my photo processing software.
Having thousands of photos this feature is a necessity.
At the very least, since we can see this data in dropbox attached to each image, could you expose these field names in your API? Perhaps around this section:
I would like the .tag-name to be field_name and then the actual field name to be "Keywords" - this would be a HUGE improvement to searchability.
@Walterif Dropbox could search IPTC metadata, Dropbox would become a simple easy way to share our photo and video stock assets with our team and with clients. We are small production/ photography company that licenses stock imagery internally (not via online stock website). Our stock sales are just a small part of our business but if we could find the content quickly we could grow that part easily. Right now I cannot find a simple inexpensive solution to keep those images accessible and searchable by everyone in our 3 person team. We are already using Dropbox for pretty much all the rest of our business, from client delivery and review (replay) to storage of all our biz files to sharing content with each other. This simple search tool would solve our stock image problems and allow us to generate more revenue.
This feature is what is missing from Dropbox to make all the crazy expensive solutions (i.e: photoshelter, Mediavalet) obsolete. I moved to form $10k/year solution to Dropbox and this is the most important feature I am missing to make Dropbox my primary photo management tool.
Not everyone affords $10k/year for photo management.
