Share files together that are located in different folders

Share files together that are located in different folders

Hi,

Often I am in the situation that I need to share files to someone that are not all in the same folder.
It would be great to be able to create a collection that is an abstract folder containing files located in multiple file system locations but still group and share it as one package.

Then it is possible to keep the original folder structure but still share all needed files.

Please implement this. 🙂
I would be a way more productive person.

Google Symbolic links, your operating system performs this job.

Nope,
Symlinks does not work. The whole purpose was to be able to share the folder as a collection yo cannot rely on the operating system. The file shows up but since it is only a link it does not contain anything. It only works locally on the machine.

Its not a link, sounds like you used shortcuts and not symbolic linking, if you had used a symbolic link the content would have been there.

Ok, then we need to use the terminal and "ln -s <target> <link name>"?
That solution might technically work but is not a user friendly way of managing the issue of sharing files that are located in different folders. There is no way that the average Dropbox user would use it.

Dropbox doesnt support sharing files else where so its not really there concern.
.
For the PC at least there are a few explorer add ins that allow you to do it with a few clicks. Sounds like Mac might not have them.

Hi Dave,

I have the same question as Martin, that I need to share file from multiple folders.

Could you explain more in detail how the explorer add-ins work?

Thanks,

Gabe

Hi All

totally agree with OP!

Symlinks used to work (on MacOS) but stopped working a while ago.

I even found a context-menu/right-click finder menu to automate it without terminal, but as I say, it stopped working...

Cheers Peter

I'll pile on, here.  I use Dropbox for -- among other things -- my photo backups, from my phone.  However, once the photos are uploaded, there is not "good" way to create albums out of them.  There used to be, some years ago in Dropbox, this idea of an album.  I'm not certain why the feature was dropped but it would be very useful for share my photos, once uploaded.
