Unzip/zip a file inside Dropbox

Unzip/zip a file inside Dropbox

Uploading the zipped file to dropbox and unzipping it inside would save a lot of time and traffic for users. Some of the web services already exist for that (like this one http://www.quora.com/Is-there-a-way-to-decompress-a-zip-file-inside-Dropbox), but as they use their own server capacities, they cost money. Unzipping inside the dropbox may be an additional feature inside the dropbox itself. I would even pay for that a little xtra.

This would be a lifesaver right now, I was very surprised this wasn't already an option, I hope we get this ability soon!

+1 dropbox handles so many other files well, please make it easier to work with ZIP without having to download every time. Very needed, its stupid to have to download multiple zips and open just to see if it is the one I want.

This would be useul to everyone: workers, students, artists, the family events planner... Great idea.

This is a great idea and one that is now being considered (status just changed to "In Review") for development in least some versions of the web experience.

This idea from the Community popped up as one that has never made the product priority list (too much basic functionality still needs to be addressed) but seemed doable with a reasonable amount of effort.  At a recent HackWeek, where employees get to work on anything they are passionate about, several members of the team got together to build this and some related features.  We got a basic (hacky) version running and are now evaluating if we can get it in shipable shape.  Lots of issues to resolve in terms of reliability, scalability, and security but we're trying.  🤞

Thanks for the suggestion and upvotes!  Keep 'em coming.

I think Dropbox should support more than the few very general file extensions. I'm having issues at the moment with a Zip file. It's I think trying to make me unpack and then individually add them which is kinda sneaky do to the fact plans are based on amount of space purchased our available. So allowing the whole Zip folder not unpacked would be obviously a positive to reduce amount of space taken up with additional folder to individual files.

+1 to this one, I work on CGI projects and being able to compress a completed project with thousandth of image files would be great.

Can’t do it today - tells me to do it on a desktop - Not a Solution. Clients sending their files as zip and our team is working on mobile iOS. Need a solution to that ASAP. Waiting for it since years.
