Utilize both SSD and HDD for faster speeds on Dropbox

Utilize both SSD and HDD for faster speeds on Dropbox

More and more are changing to SSD. And SSD's are fast, but capacity is expensive, so a lot of people are using a fast SSD as a system volume and a bigger but slower disk for general storage.

Would it be possible to make a feature, where you can use one volume (regular HDD where capacity is cheaper) as the general location of the dropbox folder, and then allocate some space on the faster SSD as a dropbox buffer, where the most used files could live.

In my case I have to workstations. One with 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD and another with 1TB SSD and a 3TB HDD.

I am currently using more than 1,5TB of space on my dropbox, so syncing all the contents to the SSD's is not an option.

So the idea is to allocate a user defined amount of space on the SSD as a buffer for the dropbox files i use the most and then keep the vast majority of the files on the bigger but slower regular HDD.

If your motherboard will support it, look into Intel's Optane memory. It does exactly what you're asking for while being much faster than an SSD, and it's cheap (16GB is about $20).

I will definitely have a look at that. I am already using a Corsair Force Series MP600 1TB M.2 SSD - So that should be quite fast as well - but of course it doesn't work in the same way as Optane - Thanks for the suggestion - Still think the other feature would be a nice feature though. It could solve some problems without having to get new hardware.
