VAULT Folders & Files Accessibility

VAULT Folders & Files Accessibility

New member | Level 2

Due to concern for the fairly easy access to my Dropbox (DB) folders and files on my laptop by other sporadic users (family & freinds), I am forced to utilize the VAULT area of my DB account for a number of folders and files that I must access (read, edit, add to, download, etc.) sometimes multiple times a day.  With regard to the use of this area, I feel that it is just not user freindly and I say this acknowledging there is a need for security boundaries. It is most difficult using two completely different windows (Online DB Vault & laptop Windows based) to move between folders and files. There is no ability to drag, drop, copy or paste between the two, which requires one to download or upload the file/folder to work on it or move it. Yes, you can get there with the various graphical commands in the DB webpage but very time consuming and not very intuitive from my perspective. And one of the most questionable areas for me is the fact that when you are in the online VAULT webpage, or even the regular DB Folders and files webpage, there is a whole lot of of unused real estate to the right of the folder/file listing and absolutely no way to widen the listing area so you can actually read the full name of the file or folder. There is a small menu of items there to the right, which should be moved up above the listing area and make for a much wider listing view.

But my main complaint is the inability of this VAULT area to integrate with all of my other DB folders and files (local, online-only & both). The designers have put the VAULT icon at the end of my normal DB folder/file listing, but it is only a link to opening up the VAULT P.I.N. webpage. After clearing in with my P.I.N., this icon doesn't change to be access to the VAULT folders and files, which I would think would be the goal. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to move into this online DB VAULT webpage everytime I want to access a file or folder to add to or copy into an e-mail, for example. I am told Microsoft 365 also provides a VAULT area but it is seamless after a Two-part identity clearance. I would take the added time with Two-part identity check all day to this completely cumbersome DB VAULT system.  As to those that may feel that the VAULT should only be for very sensitive documents and files that are not accessed often, I would just say that given the easy access to my DB files and folders on my laptop, once one is able to either sign-in or bypass the sign-in, the VAULT almost seems like it should be the primary place for the data.  And I will add that last year, I had an issue with losing some files due to my lack of understanding of the DB process and when Customer Support became involved, there was a point where I was looking for one of my important parent folders and the DB IT person actually had access to a listing of my folder names. I was stunned when she presented a full folder name and asked if it was part of the parent folder. You can tell me that this is the limit of mining on their part but very hard to digest someone there can't take additional steps and access file and folder content. Maybe this is the same for the VAULT but I was told by support the other day no one there has access to VAULT data inclusive of file and folder names. i.e., this is my rationale for using that area for my family's personal identification, health and financial data. So hopefully, the IT development team can look at this and give some thought to providing VAULT access much like any other DB folder, even if it needs to have additional security clearances and possibly time-out features.

Thanks for any efforts. Unfortunalely, I will need to look to move over to the Microsoft platform if this is going to be the approach going forward. I really do not want to get tied into the Microsoft shackles creating migration of other products into my laptop, but looks like we all will need to rely on the cloud for storage and I just want to be able to work within it efficiently.
