I am a music producer who stores his entire working catalog in Dropbox. I enjoy using the Dropbox mobile app to preview tracks I'm working on. However, Dropbox previews audio at lower resolution than seems necessary. I can hear the data loss when Iistening back (as if I were listening to a 96kbps mp3). This seems to be true whether I am previewing uncompressed files (WAV) or hi-quality compressed files (320kbps mp3). I am recommending variable playback quality for audio previews (and video previews, for that matter). A simple slider, like the one that exists on any of the digital music streaming platforms, could allow us to select low/med/hi in order to provide a better preview experience to those with discerning ears.
TBH, ideally we'd be able to set this for others as well, when sending a transfer, to ensure that a client receives a high quality preview. Though I imagine that's a bit harder to enforce.
Many people have spoken about this issue—I see threads going back years. So I'm adding my name to the list.
As of now, I am forced to trust Soundcloud for my critical listening on the go. I pay a lot for Dropbox and I'd love to do this within the platform.
