iPhone app sorting files, folders at top please

iPhone app sorting files, folders at top please

After the most recent update, the iOS app added all sorts of options for sorting files. But before the update, folders were always displayed first. This made it a lot easier to navigate the directories. Now I have to scroll through sometimes hundreds of files to get to the folder I need. So it would be nice to display folders first on the iOS client, which is what the web app and most operating systems do.

The fact that Dropbox sorts files and folder by name and doesn't separate the folders is extremely annoying. Don't tell me this is an iOS issue because OneDrive does it right!

I have complained about this about 6 months ago. Dropbox has had a couple of updates since yet nothing has been done about this sorting issue. Folders must be at the top in all sorting methods but especially in name order.

I have seen someone say it's an Apple/ iOS issue, but that cannot be true as OneDrive does this right as well as WD Personal cloud app for iOS.

Dropbox please fix this!!!

Folders first is already an option. All of my folders are displayed before any files. It's been like this for some time now.

At the time those posts were made, it likely was an Apple issue. It wasn't until later releases of iOS that this was possible.

Hi Rich, well it's pretty strange and dropbox support is trying to figure this out.

My DropBox app on my iPhone 7 only started showing this "Content / List View" feature yesterday, but my other iOS device are still the same.

I am working with them to figure this out.

I figure out this issue where the "Content / List View" option on the top right of the files screen was not showing on my devices and got it to work.

I first removed the app and reinstalled on one device, but after reinstalling the app was still exactly the same, there was still no content view, even after switching tabs, going into setting etc. I then force closed the app but double clicking the home button and swiping up to close. When opening the app the second time the content & list view button appeared.

On the next device, i skipped the app reinstall step and simply closed and reopened the app, and the option appeared. I find this really strange, because I am not one of those people who leave my apps open in the background forever. Almost daily I close all apps and at least once a week, i reboot my device after closing all apps, thinking that this will keep my iOS devices running at their optimal performance, so i'm not sure why I even have this issue? All this time I just thought that Dropbox on iOS didn't have the ability to sort folders and files seperately, but they even went 1 step further and even sort the photos too which is great! I am a very happy Dropbox use now!

With the latest Dropbox update on iOS using with a iPhone 6s there is only grid view for folders and files. I need to be able to see files in a list. Please bring this back it is impossible to look through folders when the names are contracted.

This idea is going to need a bit more support.

On iOS apps, the issue with folders not showing up first under "Files" has still not been resolved. The desired outcome for me is to press the "Files" button at the bottom of the app and then have all of my folders sorted alphabetically and shown FIRST on the list, before any of the files that are not located within specific folders.  Since Dropbox is baffling some of us with not allowing this capability on the iOS app, here is a workaround that may help some of you:

Use the "Add to Starred" feature for the folders you access most (or all of them). On the iOS "Home" screen, click the "Starred" subsection at the top and your folders will all be there. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to sort these alphabetically, but at least it's a shortcut to a files-only view.

Note: if you have starred files they will show up also; I recommend unstarring them and just starring the folder they are in, to clean it up a bit.
