86.4.146 stuck on syncing

86.4.146 stuck on syncing

I'm currently running version 86.4.146 but it's stuck on syncing. The things I tried:

  • Checked if there is enough space on the computer as well as Dropbox
  • Rebooting the computer
  • Paused syncing and resumed syncing
  • Unlinking and relinking the computer
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the desktop app
  • Advanced re-install with the offline version
  • Advanced re-install with the normal version
  • Created a test folder containing a test file

Dropbox isnt using any symlinks or anything is it?

I haven't got any symlinks (I had to lookup what they are).

Hey there @040rob, I hope you had a good weekend!

Could you let me know around how many files you have syncing within your Dropbox folder? 

You should be able to right click the Dropbox folder within the File Explorer, choose "Properties" and see how many files are within the folder.

Let me know what you find!

There are 291304 files in the Dropbox folders, with a total of 354 GB. In the meanwhile Dropbox actually started and will be ready in 2+ days, although I wonder why it is syncing all files again.

Thanks for checking on that @040rob.

I'm glad to hear that the app has started to sync! Since you unlinked and re-installed the desktop app, it will need to re-index your files which can sometimes show as "Syncing".

Indexing is needed to cross-check your files locally and online to see if there are any changes that need to be synced.

So, in this case, I'd just check that the desktop app is linked with the original Dropbox folder (you can check through the File Explorer) and allow it to index your files.

If you'd like to try and speed things up a little, you can check that the desktop app's bandwidth isn't limited.
