A TopIcons externsion which fully works on GNOME 3.34

Helpful | Level 6

Since I had installed Fedora 31 Workstation with GNOME 3.34, I could hardly find an extension which made Dropbox's tray icon work properly.

The following is a summary of measures I tried but faild,

  • libappindicator
  • TopIcons
  • TopIcons Plus
  • TopIcons Redux
  • Some gnome shell extension packages

I compromised with an extention named AppIndicator/KStatusNotifierItem which partially worked without showing a full icon menu.

But just now, I was lucky to find another extension named TopIcons Plus Git fully works on Fedora 31 Worstation with GNOME 3.34. The link is as follows,

Install it, make sure it gets enabled via GNOME Tweaks, and then restart your PC, you will see Dropbox tray icon and the full menu after clicking on it.

Hope this helps.

Hi there @acquitar, I hope you're having a great day!

Thanks for sharing this with us here on the Community, I'm sure that this will help others who might be having a similar issue that you had with the tray icon!

While we recommend the TopIcons extension as part of the system requirements for the tray icon on Linux systems, I really appreciate the time and effort you took to find the specific one that worked for you and share it here for others.

I'll make sure to point anyone having issues with the tray icon over here to your post here.

Have a good one - cheers!
