Ability to attach Dropbox files to email in Mail app on Ipad has disappeared

Ability to attach Dropbox files to email in Mail app on Ipad has disappeared

I have regularly been able to attached documents from Dropbox when creating an email on OSX Mail app. However, now I am not able to. Steps that fail are below:

  1. Create email on iPad with Mail.
  2. Tap on the paper clip icon OR tap in the body to get banner of options, including Add Attachment
  3. Window opens with file access options; under LOCATIONS, find ICloud Drive, On My IPad, and Recently Deleted. No Dropbox option.
  4. No MORE... button anywhere to add Dropbox as a choice for Mail to attach documents.
  5. I have looked in Settings for a way to tell either Dropbox to allow access or Mail to get access to Dropbox. No success yet.

Please, any solution? I have found discussion of problem with Outlook and referral to Microsoft, but there is no MS Office involvement in this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there, we’re assuming you’re referring to the iOS Mail app, not the Mac OSX app.

Have you installed the Dropbox mobile app, and does the Dropbox folder appear on the Files app on your iPad?

If not, could you confirm what version of iOS you’re running on the iPad, and what version of the Dropbox app is installed?

Thanks in advance!

This is a great question and a helpful response.

Since I do not normally use the Files app, I had not checked it. Sure enough, when I did, I saw that Dropbox was not enabled on Files. When I enabled it there, it appeared back in the Mail app.

i don’t know why it went away, but this solved my problem.

Thanks.

K Martin

Hi Jay,

Please let me know which Files App you are referring to as I am also unable to attach any files from Dropbox to mails on an iPhone. Thanks so much

Hi Mia, what version of iOS are you running on your iPhone?

The iOS Files app is something that allows Dropbox to save files to the iOS device, at least temporarily, to use in other apps.

More information about this can be found here.

Let me know if this helps!

I'm having this issue as well.  I have been regularly adding documents from my Dropbox to emails in the iOS Mail app, and suddenly am unable to.  The difference for me is that I am able to see choose Dropbox, and the folder and file, but the file will not download to add to the mail;  it just stays in waiting to download.  D6720651-A653-47AB-B420-4A5FB215929D.jpeg  I have updated the Dropbox app and the latest iOS.  I am currently using iOS 12.2.

Anyone have a fix for this?

Hi @EMay, iOS 12.2 is a beta version of the software, which isn’t currently supported until it becomes a stable version, so any issues with the Dropbox mobile app can’t be troubleshooted.

Were you experiencing this on the stable version of iOS 12.1.4?

Hi, Jay - I’m having the same problem described above by EMay.  I’m running iOS 12.1.4.    The only files that will download are ones that have the download symbol in the upper right corner.  But those are often older versions of the docs I’m trying to attach into the emails.  Appreciate any suggestions you may have.  Thanks!
