Hi Dan,
I'd be tempted to try and do the following:
-Uninstall Dropbox software completely
-Move the Dropbox folder manually back to your internal drive
-Reinstall Dropbox
-Follow the advanced options to link to the new location. It will say it is already a location so just agree that and merge.
That was almost what I needed to do. Thanks Mark. What I ended up doing was creating a dummy dropbox login in order to login to that existing dropbox install on my Mac. Had to do that because I couldn't un-install it until I had logged in, and I couldn't login with my existing ID because doing so caused Mac to crash.
I set the dummy account to point to the Mac drive. Then uninstalled, manually moved the files, and reinstalled. Dummy account started syncing, so I paused the sync, unlinked the dummy account, and relinked the real account. The real account came up pointing to the Mac drive and it's syncing now. Looks like that's going to work for me.
Thanks again for the help.
