Android Dropbox installation renamed itself after a Team Folder -- how do I change it back?

Android Dropbox installation renamed itself after a Team Folder -- how do I change it back?

Digital_Hoarder
Explorer | Level 3

I joined a Team Folder, and now my Android Dropbox is called the name of that folder (i.e. when I select the app, the name of the Team Folder is in big font at the top of the list of subfolders.)

It's only on Android -- the PC and Mac installations aren't affected.

Any idea how I change it back to just Dropbox? Or whatever it was before I joined the team (I can't remember what it said up the top prior).

I'm on a free account.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for clarifying matters for me (@Digital_Hoarder), now I have a clearer picture of what’s happening! As you’ve mentioned that you wish to stay connected to the team, then there isn’t currently a way to tweak this setting. However, I’ve made sure to note down your interest as a feature request to our team specialists for future iterations.

A creative workaround could be creating a new (Basic) account & linking it to your Team account across your devices (👥, :desktop:, :iphone:) though it’s up to you on whether you’d like to proceed with this option.

I hope that this is-even slightly- helpful to you & please feel free to ping me back here in case you’d like to discuss any of any of the above in a bit more detail. Have a wonderful rest of your day ahead until we talk again!

Hey there (@Digital_Hoarder), thanks for reaching out on our Forum on this question!

I’d like to ask you some more details regarding your account setup at the moment, so as to make sure I’m sending you the right next steps & we’ll take it from there.

As you’ve already mentioned that you’re not a Dropbox Business team member at the moment, I’m wondering if you’re a Free Team member by any chance. If so (& you wish to revert back to a personal account), please bear in mind that you can leave the team by going here: https://www.dropbox.com/team. To leave the team, just click the 'Leave team' button at the top right hand side of the page, which will return your account back to its personal status.

(Tips: Please note that when you leave a team, you will no longer have access to any files in your team folder. If you would like to retain access to files within the folder, you can make a copy before leaving the team following these steps.

If you're a Free team admin and the last member of a free team, you should delete the team instead of leaving it in order to preserve access to your Paper docs.)

Once you leave the Free Team, you account should return back to its personal status & this should be reflected across devices.

Hopefully my pointers do the trick for you, though I’m always here in case you experience any issues or if you have further questions. Let me know how it goes!

Hi Jane,

The thing is, I don't want to actually leave the team -- I just don't want my entire Android Dropbox installation named after it (or at least the team name appearing up the top). But if that's the only way I can stay on the team, then I'll leave it as it is.

EDIT: hit the reply button too soon, just wanted to add: thanks for the pointers. and if you know of any way of achieving the above (although I doubt it, I'm assuming that if you're the member of a team then that supercedes the personal status and there's nothing you can do about it), then please let me know.

Thanks again.

Thanks, Jane -- I think I'll leave things the way the are given that my existing Dropbox has a fair amount of bonus storage accrued over the years. And thanks for putting in the feature request -- my suggestion if you haven't already put it this way to the devs is that joining a team doesn't rename the account in the Android app, or at least have it offered as a choice. I had assumed that it would work that way from the get go -- and once again it's only on Android where it is an issue.

Thanks again.

Sure @Digital_Hoarder, anytime! Maybe it would be worth mentioning that (luckily) our product experts scan our Forum regularly for similar feedback, as it offers the transparency needed to gather your thoughts on how certain features work for you.

That said, we’re always just a post away in case you have further inquiries or thoughts in the future, so don't hesitate to reach back out here at any time. Again, thanks for posting your question on our Forum & I hope you have a lovely rest of your day ahead! 😊
