Using Safari Version 10.0.3 ( 12602.4.8 )
I have seen MULTIPLE threads added for this topic and not a single response or solution provided. C'mon now...
Playing an mp3 file in my dropbox works fine if I'm on the iPhone app. However, when using the website itself on my mac, Safari crashes repeatedly (endless loop until you change pages) after a few seconds of playing the file. Same issue if playing from the beginning or any other time within the file. Additionally, it will crash just by sitting there, not playing anything. Found that out while I was writing an Apple report. That leads me to beleive the player itself is the problem, not anything with the file / playback.
I suggest you log a ticket with support then. This is a user supported forum.
http://bit.ly/cm-support will let you log it and http://dropbox.zendesk.com will let you track.
Replies will take a few days, however.

The player is Safari or whatever plugin/add-on provides MP3 functionality within Safari. Dropbox doesn't have its own player. Have you tried another browser?
Crashes on Chrome as well (windows 7 work laptop). Threads exist with that browser as well with no resolution. Just throwing that out there.

I doubt Google And Safari decided to use the same radio box display and slider bar design out of copyright concerns. So I'm not buying that Dropbox is not to blame. This is an issue with Dropbox, not browsers.
*note*
I've been testing software since 2009, I'm certain of my findings.
