Being able to open finder view macOS Mojave, not the app

Being able to open finder view macOS Mojave, not the app

Etern007

I've recently upgraded from Sierra to macOS Mojave. Since doing so, I've noticed when I use the folder icon to open my Dropbox folder in a finder window (as it used to), it now defaults to opening the app.

Is there way to change this behaviour as I much prefer to be able to open a finder window, not the app.

Thank you.

Hello @Etern007

Welcome to Dropbox Community! :grinning:

You can choose for the Dropbox to open in your finder by default.

  1. Click "Preferences"
  2. Click the dropdown next to Open folders in: and choose Finder:wink:

Let me know if you have more questions. I would be happy to answer them.

Thanks!

Where is this setting on OSX? I check in Dropbox preferences under all options (General, Account, Import, Network, Notifications, Sync) and it doesn't appear anywhere as an option. Not in Finder preferences either. Help please?

When running Dropbox v82.4.155 on MacOS 10.14.6, it is under Dropbox preferences under 'General' (last setting under 'General' tab labelled as 'Open folders in').

This is all I see, same version:

@MajesticIX,

Looks like your account is still not opted-in to the new Dropbox desktop app experience, since you see the link to "Try the new Dropbox desktop app". I would imagine the setting would only appear after you opt in, since now the only way to display files is to default to opening in Finder.

That would make sense--although I downloaded the app, twice, installed it and restarted my machine but nothing has changed. Quit Dropbox, ran the app from the Applications folder and still no dice. I had no idea Dropbox even released a new app purportedly.

I'll probably have to uninstall everything, clean out some buried hidden files and try again at some point. Thanks for the help though!

@MajesticIX,

The website I linked above mentions that "the new desktop experience will be updated for Dropbox desktop users over the next few weeks". If you don't see it yet (and if there isn't a way of opting in manually either at the link under General settings or via the linked website), it would normally mean that the update just hasn't reached your account yet and will be enabled server-side soon.
