Can I go back to the old Dropbox desktop application view?

Explorer | Level 3

I've been using the new dropbox app for the past few months and I still miss the old app, is there a way to go back to the old one? My main isues are:

- No longer being able to drag and drop files from the system tray app to my programs.

- No longer having all recent updated / synced / shared files in one list, instead I have to click 'Recent For You / Recent Shared / Notifications / For You' to see all updates. I've been missing out on new files because of this.

You can download older setup & not give permission for dropbox to update new version, turn off some settings is another good way.

Thanks. Which version is the last one where everything was still the old way?

Hi @Marcus P. and @toand65!

Have a nice week.

I understand you want to have the Dropbox application opening directly in your Finder File Explorer like it use to.

To change that preference follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Dropbox icon in your system tray or menu bar
  2. Click your profile picture or initials in the upper right corner.
  3. Click "Preferences".
  4. Click the dropdown next to Open folders in: and choose Finder/File Explorer or Dropbox desktop app.

Let me know if this worked for you.

Cheers!

Hi Fiona,

No, I already have that. Please read my initial post.

- No longer being able to drag and drop files from the system tray app to my programs.

- No longer having all recent updated / synced / shared files in one list, instead I have to click 'Recent For You / Recent Shared / Notifications / For You' to see all updates. I've been missing out on new files because of this.

What happens when you drag and drop files? Are you getting an error? What is the version of Dropbox installed there and what is the version of your Operating system?

I am afraid the change to the recents cannot revert back to the previews view. Thank you for your feedback on this though.

In the new version it's impossible to drag files directly from the system tray app in osx, you have to open the folder in the finder first. I have already had email contact about this with the helpdesk and they confirmed it's not possible.

Which version should I install to get this option and the old recent list back?

i'm on version 89.4.278 btw

Can I have the ticket number of this communication please?

You should be able to drag and drop files from the Dropbox desktop app to your folder and vice versa.

As for the recents, please share your idea about Recents here. In this section, other user can support your idea.

Thank you for your feedback.
