I want to move content from a PC to a Macbook Pro without using the Migration Assistant. If content is placed in DropBox from the PC can I then simply upload the content onto my Mac?

Yes - whatever you place in Dropbox on the PC and allow to upload to Dropbox will then download to the Mac 🙂
