Can I move the drop box folder from C drive to any other drive while keeping the smart sync on?

New member | Level 2

I have smart sync desktop app on. I am running low on C drive space? I want the smart sync to work. I want to move the drop box folder from desk top to any other drive. Can I do that? Will it affect the syncing speed?

Thank you.

Hi there @RNK1, I hope you're having a good day so far!

You can move the Dropbox folder location through the desktop app preferences. This will move your folder as it is, so won't affect the files that are "online only" and it shouldn't affect syncing speeds either.

You can find the steps to do this here, but I'd suggest taking a little time to read the notes at the top of the page before doing so.

If move the Dropbox folder to an external drive, I usually recommend turning off "Start at system start up" for the desktop app, to ensure that the drive is correctly mounted before the app starts up.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
