Can't download previous version of file.

Can't download previous version of file.

I don't mean "revert" to previous version.

In previous versions of Dropbox, you could see a list of the versions of the file, and you could download all the ones you needed.

Now, you can only REVERT to one of the versions of the file. When you click in them, Dropbox shows you the file, and only shows one button to "revert"

But, if you are quick, you can see that for half a second, it shows a button to "download" that previous version of the file. But this button only appears for half a second, and only the very first time.

With this new approach of Dropbox it is very frustrating to download several previous versions of a file.

Looks like this is a result of the Dropbox client detecting that you already have the file (although not that version of the file) locally.

One of the features that Dropbox introduced a while ago was the ability to open the local copy of a file from the website. Basically, through the Dropbox client installed on your computer, the website can see whether you have a particular file synced locally. When you do, instead of the Download button they show you an Open button, which tells the Dropbox client to open your local copy. The thought process being you don't need to download something that already exists on your computer.

This, obviously, shouldn't apply to previous versions because you're trying to download a different version of the file than what you have locally. Dropbox should alter this behavior and I'll pass the idea on to them. In the meantime, if you exit the Dropbox client and refresh the website, the Open button will be replaced with the Download button. See the screenshots below:

Thank you. This resolved momentarily the situation, and it allowed me to download previous versions of the files.

I do not like the work around of having to exit Dropbox to make this work. I hope the option to download instead or just opening and restoring is - restored. Before I found this post I had to save my current file out as a different name, since I knew pressing the restore button would "lose" the current version. very frustrating

Related issue which I have found no solution: anyone find out how to download multiple previous versions? When you make a mistake and need to find the specific version, it would be infinitely easier to be able to download a single zip file, and open them in series, rather than go through Dropbox's terrible web interface.

Best,

Make sure you cancel any payments to Dropbox if you are a paying user - www.dropbox.com/plans and if you would like to abandon totally you can delete your account at www.dropbox.com/account

If one isnt listing I'm afraid it isnt possible to recover it from that date - its possible it never uploaded in the first place.
