Can't remove Dropbox folder and "My PC (LENOVO-LA7NO)"

Can't remove Dropbox folder and "My PC (LENOVO-LA7NO)"

I installed Dropbox, and by mistake activated the automatic computer backup.

I also used the default location of the Dropbox folder.

I reinstalled Dropbox without automatic computer backup and chose the location of the Dropbox folder to drive "d:"
I could still not remove the My PC (LENOVO-LA7NO) folder, and the old default Dropbox folder (C:\Users\ptaa\Dropbox) keeps reappearing after deletion.

So, I uninstalled Dropbox completely again. Rebooted, but I still can not remove My PC (LENOVO-LA7NO).
Also, the Dropbox folder still reappears after deleting it.
To me, this is very strange behavior.

How can I clean up this, please?

Regards,

Per-Tore

I finally found the reason for this odd behavior.

When f.ex. trying to change the location of "Desktop" to its default position via folder properties, a Reparse Point error occurred.

At the default location for "Desktop", there was a pointer to the Desktop. Deleting that pointer, fixed the problem. Now the location could be changed to default in the normal fashion.

After doing the same with "Documents", the "My PC (LENOVO-LA7NO)" folder was empty, and it could be deleted. Lastly, the extra "Dropbox" folder was also now empty, and could be deleted.

Finally, all seems to be well. 😁

Hey @PTAa, and welcome to our Community!

If I were you, I'd try disabling the Computer Backup feature first. Once you do, you can either move the Downloads, Desktop, Documents folders back to their original path or delete the "My PC" folder.

After that, you can uninstall our desktop app, delete all traces of the Dropbox folder and start fresh. Or you can choose to move the path of your existing Dropbox folder, while the app is still installed.

Can you try, and let me know if you have any questions along the way?

Thanks for your reply, Lori.

Actually, I did disable the backup feature on my second install of Dropbox.

I was still not able to delete the "My PC" folder.

I then uninstalled Dropbox complete, but still could not remove "My PC" folder.
