Can the windows desktop app accept an existing dropbox folder?

I'd like to suggest that by installing the app and pointing to an existing folder, make the app accept the folder instead of creating a new one and renaming the old one.

Hi @_thefixer, thanks for joining the Community!

This is already possible if you have a Dropbox folder already located elsewhere on your machine.

During the installation process, if you click Advanced Settings, you can choose the location of the old Dropbox folder.

See step 11 in the Windows section of this article for more details.

Hey @Jay.

Let me try to clarify it.

I have a dropbox folder on an external hard drive, perfectly synced, on a windows computer.
I will use this HD on another computer with windows.
I connected the hard drive to the new computer, downloaded the latest version of the agent and configured it to point to the existing folder. The app doesn't allow to use of the existing folder, it offers to rename the existing folder and download everything again or close the app.
I did a workaround for the app to accept the existing folder.

Thanks for the info, for Dropbox folders on external drives, you can't associate that folder to another machine using the Dropbox desktop application, since it's linked to the original machine.

What workaround have you used to make it accept the folder?
