CentOS 7 support

Will dropbox run on CentOS 7? The  list of OS includes Ubuntu 14.04 and up and Fedora 21 and up -- but aren't Fedora and CentOS essentially RHEL code?

Re: CentOS 7 support - Status changed to: New

Hey there ( @THawkInchem ), as you’re already aware, we currently support Ubuntu 14.04 or higher & Fedora 21 or higher & you must have glibc 2.19 or higher (i.e. apart from locating Dropbox folder on an ext4-formatted hard drive or partition), in order for our desktop application to work correctly.

If your device doesn't meet these requirements, you can still use the Dropbox desktop application as long as it meets our system requirements for Dropbox on Linux (but keep in mind that your results may vary).

In any event, I appreciate the time you took to detail us your interest on this functionality. I’ve already made sure to add your voice to the feedback gathered internally, as your thoughts help us better understand your needs.

Thanks for taking the time to drop us a line on our Community & happy Monday!

There are 2 main enterprise level linux distributions - Redhat and SUSE.  Dropping support of Redhat/Centos is at best surprising.  Unfortunately I bought Dropbox service for a year and now it is totally useless to me.

Hey there (@pzi123), we recognize that our new system requirements will make it difficult to run the desktop application on Red Hat Enterprise Linux & its derivatives & we apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.

Users who are unable to meet the new system requirements can still access their files through dropbox.com on a supported browser. In addition, they can use the Dropbox app on supported Linux, Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android devices.

Other than that, I’ve also been able to locate your existing open support request on our system & I’ll make sure to touch base with you there shortly. Thanks for posting your thoughts on our Forum & I hope you have a lovely rest of your day ahead!

Well, I migrated off of the dropbox to OneDrive.  Tools like https://github.com/abraunegg/onedrive work very well on Centos 7 and even older releases. The abandonment of the key Linux distribution support by DropBox is still a head scratching event to me.  Now since I bought a year of DropBox service - a 5 times the price of OneDrive let's see if I can get my money back.  The lack of the Dropbox support links in my Dropbox profile indicates that this will be unlikely.

Until DropBox resumes support for CentOS, there is a workaround through FlatPak; however, it requires the DropBox folder be stored on an ext4 drive which has to be set-up as a separate partition:

1) partition a drive to ext4
2) make drive mount with each session:
i) create reference folder: mkdir /home/user_name/dropbox_drive
ii) identify name of drive (sda3): ls /dev/hd*
iii) edit hard-drive list: sudo gedit /etc/fstab
iv) add line: /dev/sda3 /home/user_name/dropbox_drive ext4 defaults 1 2
3) Then go here to enable FlatHub: https://flatpak.org/setup/CentOS/
4) Then here to download the FlatPak DropBox: https://flathub.org/apps/details/com.dropbox.Client
5) When prompted, specify a folder in the mounted dropbox_drive
