Hello,

I have been attempting to disable backup from my Macbook to my work Dropbox, and I keep getting the 'Couldn't Disable Backup' error message. I have paused syncing, and still not luck.

Can you please help with this issue?

Thanks so much

Hi @LukeAI, I hope you're doing well!

In the screenshot you provided, it seems that syncing is paused on the app at the moment. Have you tried to resume syncing, and then try to disable the backup?

Let me know more!

Hi @KennnD, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Are you trying to disable the computer backup from the Dropbox site or the Dropbox desktop application?

This will help me to assist further!

I tried to disable Dropbox Backup on my Windows 11 PC.
Unfortunately I get an error message saying "Couldn't disable backup."

I'm new to Dropbox, trying it out. Still on the free version with just 1GB of files in Dropbox on my Win10 v22H2 desktop PC, at home (I'm retired).

Decided to move the Dropbox folder to another drive and, after entering the destination folder name, was prompted to disable PC Backup - which I didn't know was active. Went to the backup tab of preferences and clicked Manage Backups. This gave me Dropbox Backup Beta window.

On the left it shows "PC paused. Last backup 9/10/2023". In the main section, Automatic Backups is Off.

Delete Backup gets "Delete your PC Backup?" and I click Confirm.

A message in black says "Couldn't disable backup". When I click View Errors another window pops up with everything greyed out except Try Again and Cancel.  In the greyed out part I can just make out "A few more steps are needed to disable this backup" the next three lines show three folder names and "Couldn't stop backup" in red. Below is Close and Try Again.

Clicking the Try Again which is not greyed out at the top, gets action circles beside each of the folder names for half a second, then everything is greyed out again.

That's as far as I can get.  I've tried this several times, often after a Restart of the PC.

Hey @Keith64, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

You mentioned that you saw a "PC paused" message; is it possible that syncing is paused on the Dropbox app?

If so, make sure to resume it and try again.

It doesn't appear to be paused, the app shows "everything is up to date" at the bottom and "PC Backup updated today at 19:46" although it's now 09:30.

I've tried the procedure again with exactly the same undesired result.

As this was a trial of Dropbox, do you think my best bet will be to save the files elsewhere on my PC, completely uninstall Dropbox, and start again?

It's always possible I did something wrong the first time.

Thanks for listening.

Keith
